Prayer pointers for June 12th - 18th
Verse of the month for June:
'So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.'
Pray for our external mission partners, Anchor Church in Lymington and Pennington, under the leadership of Christopher Henderson, our former curate. The church are in the process of moving venues and resuming in-person gatherings. Pray for the excitement to set up a Toddler group to bear fruit in driving forward the church’s witness.
Pray for our Sunday services to help us all maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, especially as we contemplate changes to the pattern of our various gatherings, in person and online. Ask God to give us all a united and gospel-hearted vision for what should happen in each of the three services.
Homegroups resume their earlier series this week in Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. Pray for the lessons in Christian character to be well learned within the groups and for members to ‘be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power’ so that we can ‘take our stand against the devil’s schemes.’ (Ephesians 6:10-11)
Pray for God’s promised blessing on those who mourn, remembering the recent deaths of June Muncey (with a funeral on Monday June 14th) and of Jennifer Finney (whose funeral happens on Wednesday 16th June). May the hope given by the living Lord Jesus be real to those who are grieving.
Pray for the Bishop of Ely, Stephen Conway, and the Bishop of Huntingdon, Dagmar Winter. Also for our local Rural Dean, Simon Talbott, vicar of St Mary’s Great Shelford. There is a meeting (by Zoom) of the Ely Diocesan Synod tonight, which Simon Scott and David Brock will both attend.
Please continue to pray for Lynda, for daily grace with her long battle against acute myeloid leukaemia. Pray too for those recovering from hospital surgery, including Christine D. Finally pray for those who are caring for sick or elderly family members. And for Mandy Ogilvy-Stuart, our new care co-ordinator.
Pray for the Church council, meeting in small groups over coming weeks, to renew relationships with each other in person and to pray and plan towards a re-set of the church’s life as we emerge from the pandemic. Continue to pray for God’s provision of a new Treasurer. And for God to stir hearts ahead of our Summer Thanksgiving Sunday (June 27th).
