Verse of the month for October:

‘Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.’ (Acts 20:32)

Sunday 18th - Saturday 24th October

In church we are sharing bread and wine for communion for the first time in 8 months. Give thanks for the opportunity to be nourished spiritually by Jesus death for us – pray for our Bishops and national church leaders for sanctified wisdom in the guidance they must give in a constantly changing situation.

Let’s pray for our mission partners, David and Ruth Lowry, living in Dakar and translating the Bible for the Karon people, in Senegal and The Gambia. Pray for patience dealing with the inconveniences of daily life for their work – like the closure of the border, with their work in both countries. And for perseverance in a task which will keep them occupied for many years.

Pray on for our Tuesday homegroup, Thursday women’s group and TNG Bible Study: for each one to be an oasis between Sundays and a practical outworking of the teaching about church in our new Sunday sermon series. Pray also for Nick Romans in the early days of his course at Ridley Hall, for perseverance with studying on Zoom.

Pray for Bob White, speaking at a meeting tonight under the title, ‘Climate change, Covid and a Christian response’. Pray for a good attendance on Zoom, for Bob’s presentation and for fruitful interaction during Questions and answers – that we would know how we should live and how we are to speak to others.

Let’s continue to intercede for those serving as leaders in national and local government – especially for wisdom in handling the economic impact of the pandemic. Pray for those known to us who are already – or are soon to be unemployed.

As we look ahead to a Gift Day on Sunday November 1st, give thanks for God’s gracious provision to this point through the lockdown. But pray for God to be at work though the Gift Day to meet the needs of a very stretching budget, in an economic climate which seems likely to get worse before getting better. Let’s trust that our God will meet all our needs ‘according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus’. Philippians 4:20

Let’s pray on for those who are unwell – for Lynda Fraser and for Victoria Kingsley-Pallant, both undergoing treatment for leukaemia. Pray on for those who live with constant pain, like Daphne Abbott and Sue Matheson. For Daphne Peck recovering after surgery this summer and for June Muncey recovering from a stroke.  And for Maisie Fletcher and Abi Halliday who have both tested positive for Covid at university.
